Coronavirus deaths in Iran reach 34

TEHRAN, Feb 28 (KUNA) -- Deaths due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Iran went up to 34 people, while confirmed cases reached 388 individuals, said Iranian health authorities Friday.
Some 143 new infected cases were recorded since Thursday until today, bringing the total number of 388 cases, while eight new deaths were recorded, bringing the total death number to 34, said Iranian Health Ministry for public relations director Kianoush Jahanpour.
In Tehran, Jahanpur pointed out the highest recorded percentage in Iran with a total of 64 new cases, followed by the northern province of Gilan with a total of 25 cases, Qom 16 cases, and Isfahan 10 cases.
The health status of 73 infected cases have been cured and released from hospital, adding that average age of the infected is about 50 years old, while cases of deaths is more than 60 years, he added.
Moreover, the head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian parliament and the representative of Qom Mojtaba Dhul Nur and Iranian MP Mahmoud Sadiqi are among the people who are infected.
Also, there are confirmed cases of Assistant Minister of Health Erige Haririji; President of the University of Medical Sciences in the Iranian city of Qom Mohammad Reza Qadeer and Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Massoumeh Ebtekar, while Iran's former Ambassador to Vatican Sayyed Hadi Khosroshahi has died from virus.
Meanwhile, the coronavirus first appeared late last year at a seafood market in Wuhan, China, selling wild animals illegally. (end) mw.maa.hs
