WASHINGTON, Feb 27 (KUNA) -- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed late Wednesday an infection with the coronavirus in California "in a person who reportedly did not have relevant travel history or exposure to another known patient" with the virus.
"At this time, the patientآ’s exposure is unknown," the CDC said in a statement.
It added "itآ’s possible this could be an instance of community spread of COVID-19, which would be the first time this has happened in the United States." It indicated that this case "was detected through the US public health system "picked up by astute clinicians." It affirmed that "unprecedented, aggressive efforts have been taken to contain the spread and mitigate the impact of this virus." This brings the total number of coronavirus cases in the US to 15, not including the cases from the Diamond Princess cruise ship.
On Monday, Office of Management and Budget (OMB) sent Congress a request for at least USD 2.5 billion in funding "for preparedness and response including for therapeutics, vaccines, personal protective equipment, state and local public health support and surveillance." (Pick up previous) si.mt
