Kuwait's customs on high alert amid coronavirus outbreak

KUWAIT, Feb 24 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's General Administration of Customs said on Monday it has taken stringent precautionary measures after the country reported its first new coronavirus case involving people who had visited Iran.
Kuwait's customs has put in place protective measures to make sure its staff members are not at risk of contracting the pneumonia-causing virus, its director general Jamal Al-Jalawi said in a statement.
Among the measures taken is a seminar to raise awareness on the disease, in addition to previous actions including suspending the movement of people to and from Iran until further notice because of concerns about the coronavirus outbreak in the country, he added.
Kuwait said on Monday that three people who returned from Iran were infected with the new coronavirus.
The virus originated in the central Chinese city of Wuhan late last year, spreading to other cities including Beijing and Shanghai, in addition to the United States, Thailand, South Korea and Japan, among other countries. (end) skm.nam
