Malaysian PM submits his resignation

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 (KUNA) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad announced Monday his resignation from his post besides his own political party.
The prime minister's office stated in a press release that the resignation was submitted to King Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin.
From his side, king Abdullah met with heads of political parties Sunday evening, while he will meet the resigned Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad later on.
This will bring out appointing a temporary Prime Minister Wan Ismail, she also could be Malaysia's first woman prime minister.
Mahathir's decision to resign followed a weekend filled with speculation that the ruling coalition could lose power. Multiple local media, mostly citing unnamed sources, reported that Mahathir would shift allegiance by tying up with the opposition parties to form and lead a new government.(end) Aab.mah
