Iraq announces first infection with coronavirus

BAGHDAD, Feb 24 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi Ministry of Health announced Monday registering first infection with new coronavirus (COVID-19), noting the case is an Iranian student in the Iraqi province of Najaf.
The ministry said in a statement that the laboratory results confirmed the student infection with the virus, adding, the student had entered Iraq before the government's decision to ban entry of Iranians to the country.
The Ministry confirmed that all measures have been taken in accordance with the international health regulations to deal with the disease and those who are in contact with it.
Iraq had ban the entry of Iranians and foreigners from Iran in an effort to prevent the spread of coronavirus, and advised its citizens not to travel there.
The new coronavirus first appeared late last year in a seafood market in Wuhan, central China, illegally selling wild animals. (end) ahh.tma.sam
