Egypt court acquits ex-president's sons in stock case

CAIRO, Feb 22 (KUNA) -- An Egyptian court on Saturday cleared the two sons of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, along with seven other defendants, of a stock trading case.
Alaa and Gamal Mubarak and seven others had been charged with illegally gaining 495 million Egyptian pounds (USD 32 million) from the sale of Al Watany Bank of Egypt to the National Bank of Kuwait in 2007.
Cairo Criminal Court, which met today at a police academy for security reasons, acquitted the two sons and the other defendants of illicit share trading, Egypt's official news agency (MENA) reported.
Both men were detained following the 2011 popular uprising, which led to the ouster of their father, and were sentenced to three years in jail in 2015.
The case began in 2012 but Mubarak's sons had been released on bail and banned from travel. (end) rg.mt
