UN devoted to two-state Mideast solution - chief

NEW YORK, Feb 11 (KUNA) -- The United Nations is committed to the two-state solution, whereby Israel and Palestine live peacefully side by side in accordance with pre-1967 borders, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres underlined on Tuesday.
This position on the Middle East affair has been voiced through Security Council and General Assembly resolutions, he told a Security Council session discussing the matter.
The UN chief said he was deeply anxious over the state of instability in the Middle East, expressing the need for a political solution to the prolonged dispute.
The time has come for dialogue and reconciliation, he remarked, urging Israeli and Palestinian leaders to show the necessary determination to work towards achieving permanent peace.
He also emphasised the importance of the international community's support for these efforts. (end) asf.sd
