Protesters prevent deputies form reaching parliament

BEIRUT, Jan 27 (KUNA) -- Demonstrators blocked on Monday streets leading to the headquarters of the Lebanese parliament in downtown Beirut to prevent deputies from reaching it to discuss the draft budget for the year 2020.
Intensive security measures were taken in Beirut after confrontations between demonstrators with the army and the security forces after opening the roads for parliamentarians to reach Parliament.
The demonstrators intercepted the cars passing by in order to prevent them from reaching the parliament headquarters, and they clashed with the Internal Security Forces.
On Sunday, the army leadership called, in a statement, all army units to take exceptional security measures near the Parliament and the surrounding area.
It called on citizens to respond to the measures taken, not to block roads, and to follow law and public order to preserve security and stability, affirming its respect for the right to demonstrate peacefully in public squares.(end) ayb.nhq
