GAZA, Jan 26 (KUNA) -- Israeli warplanes have launched a raid on a Hamas target in southern Gaza in retaliation for a rocket attack on a neighbouring settlement.
The assault comes "in response to the rocket and explosive balloons launched from Gaza at Israel," according to the Israel Defence Forces.
Earlier, the IDF said that a rocket was fired from Gaza on an open area in Israel, adding that this did not prompt the need for sirens to be sounded.
Last night, Israeli forces bombarded two targets in southern Gaza's Khan Younis in response to explosive balloon projectiles launched on Israeli settlements.
No Palestinian faction has thus far claimed responsibility for the attacks. (end)
