Massive quake in eastern Turkey leaves 14 dead, dozens injured

ANKARA, Jan 24 (KUNA) -- At least 14 people were killed and 55 others were injured as a 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck Turkey's eastern province of Elazig, the country's emergency response agency said on Friday.
The earthquake was followed by a series of subsequent aftershocks, felt far as Adana in the south and Samsun in the north, ranging between 5.4 to 3.3 degrees on the Richter scale.
Search and rescue teams have been sent to the city and nearby villages as several buildings have either collapsed or suffered damage, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu told Anadolu news agency.
In Elazig, the quake reached a depth of 6.7 kms while it reached 7km and 10.6km in other areas.
In 2010, the city was struck by a 6-magnitude earthquake, which killed some 51 people. (end) rs.sd
