Extremist Israeli settlers set fire to mosque in Jerusalem

RAMALLAH, Jan 24 (KUNA) -- Extremist Israeli settlers on Friday set fire to the Shurfat village mosque, near the town of Beit Safafa, south of occupied Jerusalem and wrote racist slogans.
Parts of the mosque were damaged in the fire, the official Palestinian Wafa news agency quoted eyewitnesses as saying.
Palestinian Undersecretary of the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs Hussam Abu Rab condemned the mosque attack by "settlers' gangs." "The mosque burning clearly indicates the brutality of the Israeli racist incitement machine towards Islamic and Christian sanctities in Palestine," Abu Rab said in a press statement.
He called on international Islamic institutions such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab and Islamic countries to work to end these attacks. (end) nq.aa
