Greece elects woman president 1st time

ANKARA, Jan 22 (KUNA) -- The Greek parliament elected on Wednesday head of the administrative court (justice) Ekaterini Sakellaropoulou as president of the nation -- becoming the first woman to serve as head of the State.
The Greek news agency, Athens News Agency (ANA), said Sakellpropoulou, nominated by the ruling new Democratic party, earned 261 votes of 291 legislators who were present in the 300-seat parliament session.
She is due to take the oath on March 13, succeeding Prokopis Pavlopoulos, whose five-year term ends on the swearing-in date. (end) rs.rk
