Calm in Beirut after 220 people wounded in protest clashes

BEIRUT, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- Calmn returned to Beirut late Saturday after fierce confrontations broke out between protestors and security forces, leaving 220 people injured.
A large number of protesters gathered in front of the parliament in central Beirut while the security forces intensified their presence to deal with them.
During the protests, the security troops stopped some young people who had been thought as troublemakers.
Lebanon Red Cross announced that more than 80 people have been admitted to nearby hospitals and over 140 others had been treated in the site where the protests took place.
The pace of the demonstrations has been increasing over a week amid the failure of the political powers to form a new government with the continued deterioration of the living conditions and economic situation.
Thousands lost their jobs while a large number of institutions closed their doors in front of people seeking work. (pickup previuos) ayb.hm
