Turkey launches high-speed metro line project

ANKARA, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- Turkey has launched a new high-speed metro line project, connecting the heart of Istanbul to the new mega Istanbul Airport, local media reported.
Addressing a rail-welding ceremony, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the transportation link between the airport and Gayrettepe will be the country's fastest metro line, Anadolu news agency said.
The new line, which is planned to be completed by August 2021, will whisk passengers from Gayrettepe, in Sisli, on the Turkish metropolis' European side, to the new airport in just 35 minutes, covering 37.5 km through nine stops, he said.
The Turkish leader added that his government had not shrugged off the transportation issue when it built Istanbul Airport so it has commenced the construction of a metro line which is linked to all public transportation, according to the agency. (end) rs.mt
