Bomb blast kills Turkish soldier in N. Iraq - DM

ISTANBUL, Jan 17 (KUNA) -- A Turkish soldier was killed in a bomb explosion in northern Iraq on Friday, Turkey's Defense Ministry said.
The soldier was wounded while throwing a hand grenade in a bid to prevent an attack by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in Iraq's northern Harkuk region, the ministry said in a statement.
The soldier succumbed to injuries in a hospital in spite of all medical efforts to save his life, according to the statement.
Turkey, the United States and the European Union (EU) designate the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) as a "terrorist" organization. (end) ta.mt
