WASHINGTON, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- A senior State Department official revealed late Thursday that the Secretary of State Mike Pompeo would discuss the US priorities during the International Berlin conference due next Sunday.
The official, whose name was not revealed, briefly said that the discussion would include the continuation of a ceasefire in Libya, the withdrawal of all external forces, and a return to an UN-facilitated, Libyan-led political process.
"The Secretary's attendance at this event reflects the U.S. priority, the United States will continue to support Libyan parties in achieving a long-term cessation of hostilities and a political settlement that will enable all Libyans to enjoy a more peaceful future", he added.
In a question about his expectations, he said " the imperative would be the continuation of a ceasefire, adding that the United States " does not want the conflict widened beyond what it has already become, and this is a situation now where their interventions, the foreign interventions, are only exacerbating humanitarian crises in the country".
On Thursday, the spokesperson for the United States Department of State Morgan Ortagus said in a statement, that Pompeo will head to the German capital to attend the joint international conference of Germany and the United Nations about Libya, as part of a three-point plan proposed by the United Nations Special Representative in Libya Ghassan Salame.(end) rsr.nhq
