KUWAIT, Jan 14 (KUNA) -- Chairman and Director General of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij Al-Ibrahim Al-Sabah affirmed Tuesday that the achievements of the later Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah will always be remembered.
In a press statement on Tuesday on the 14th anniversary of the passing away of the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad, which falls on Wednesday, Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij said that the 'Amir Of Hearts' succeeded in turning Kuwait from a geographically small country to a strong developed state that plays a great role in international and regional events, during his 28 years of reign.
Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij remembered Sheikh Jaber's effort to unify all Kuwaiti people under his wise leadership, following the wisdom of his late father Amir Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah and the support of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
The late Amir was one of the most prominent founders of the State of Kuwait, as he contributed to building the modern state and establishing its foundations and consolidating its institutions since his assumption of power in 1977.
During his ruling, Sheikh Jaber paid more attention to the concerns of his people and the interests of his country, achieved security and stability of Kuwait and maintained its sovereignty and unity. He also benefitted from the experience of His Highness Sheikh Sabah in strengthening Kuwait's position in the world through the establishment of strong diplomatic relations with various countries.
Establishing the Gulf Cooperation Council was the brainchild of the late Amir, while he also decided to boost the work of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) to cover non-Arab countries as well, Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij added.
The late Amir kept Kuwait safe with his wisdom and ability to overcome tribulations despite all challenges and difficulties experienced by the region during his reign and was keen to keep it away from the dangers and conflicts surrounding it, he noted.
His strength and wisdom, along with cooperation with the late father Amir Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah and His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, played a key role in ending the Iraqi Invasion on Kuwait. They managed to mobilize the world with the largest international coalition to expel the occupation forces and to liberate and reconstruct Kuwait, concluded the KUNA chief. (end) fa.hs.ag
