New York takes "immediate steps" to protect city after Soleimani killing

NEW YORK, Jan 3 (KUNA) -- New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city would take "immediate steps" to prevent a retaliation in the wake of the killing of Iranian military leader Gen Qassem Soleimani in a US airstrike.
De Blasio said on twitter he had discussed the matter with the NYPD in light of protecting key locations from attempts by Iran or its allies to retaliate against the US.
"We will have to be vigilant against this threat for a long time to come," he warned.
Earlier, the Pentagon suggested that the drone strike, which occurred in Iraq, aimed to deter future Iranian attack plans on anti-IS Coalition bases, adding it would continue to take all necessary action to protect US nationals and interests. (end) asf.sd
