Iraqi protesters complete withdrawal from around US embassy

BAGHDAD, Jan 1 (KUNA) -- All protesters have withdrawn from the vicinity of the US embassy in Baghdad, Iraq's security media center declared on Wednesday.
All demonstrators pulled out from the compound of the embassy that is currently safeguarded by the Iraqi security forces, the center added in a statement.
The protesters' withdrawal came in response to caretaker Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi's call for ending protests, and a sit-in near the embassy, it noted.
Iraqi protesters surrounded the US embassy in Baghdad on Tuesday calling for an end to US "intervention" in the country.
The vicinity of the Embassy witnessed protests and sit-ins on Tuesday and Wednesday. Meanwhile, the US Embassy announced the suspension of all consular services until further notice because of the "attacks of the militias" on the embassy, reads a statement by the embassy.
It pointed out that the US consulate in Irbil is open to give visas and provide services to the US nationals. (pickup previous) ahh.hm
