KUWAIT, Dec 30 (KUNA) -- India and Pakistan fought wars over the disputed Kashmir province, and each nation claims sovereignty over the region.
The dispute continues to be a thorny issue between the two nuclear neighboring countries.
Following are events related to the province in 2019.
Jan. 3: Four Individuals -- Three gunmen and one policeman -- were killed in clashes in the district of Pulwama of Jammu and Kashmir state.
Feb. 10: Indian military announced the death of five gunmen during clashes in Jammu and Kashmir.
Feb. 14: Gunmen targeted Indian convoy in Pulwama district in Indian-controlled Jammu and Kashmir and killed Indian 40 soldiers.
Feb. 18: Nine soldiers and policemen were killed in the Indian controlled part of Jammu and Kashmir during clashes with gunmen.
Feb. 24: Two Indian soldiers were killed and three others were wounded in clashes with gunmen in Kulgam district of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
Feb. 27: Pakistan said that its air force downed two Indian jet fighters violating its airspace over Kashmir. An Indian piolet was apprehended after his plane was downed.
Feb. 27: India announced a member of its air force was killed in a plane crash in the dispute over Jammu and Kashmir province.
March 2: Four Pakistani soldiers were killed in a shootout with Indian forces over the line of control on the disputed borders of Jammu and Kashmir.
March 3: Three Indian civilians were killed in a Pakistani military shelling over Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir.
April 2: Three Pakistani soldiers were killed in clashes with Indian soldiers along the line of control in the dispute borders of Jammu and Kashmir.
April 6: Indian police said that two gunmen were killed while an Indian soldier was slain in separate clashes in Jammu and Kashmir state.

Aug. 4: Pakistan accused India of using forbidden cluster bomb, leading to the death of two individuals and injury of 11 others in Kashmir province.
Aug. 5: India canceled article 370 connected with the Kashmir province's status of autonomy.
Aug. 5: Indian imposed strict security measures in its areas of Jammu and Kashmir in reaction to mass protests contesting the canceling of the special status of province in accordance article 370 of constitution.
Aug. 7: Pakistan countered strict Indian security measures over its areas of Jammu and Kashmir, implementing similar standards over training transportation between the two nations.

Oct. 29: Indian police announced death of five laborers by hand of gunmen in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Oct. 31: India officially announced the separation of Jammu and Kashmir into two provinces Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir. The two provinces are under New Delhi's direct control.
Nov. 4: One person killed and 15 others injured in a hand grenade attack on a vegetable market in Srinagar.
