US, UK to further strengthen cooperation

WASHINGTON, Dec 16 (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump spoke Monday with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and congratulated him on his electoral victory.
The two leaders "reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation on a range of issues, including the negotiation of a United States-United Kingdom free trade agreement," White House Deputy Press Secretary Judd Deere said in a statement.
On Friday, Trump told reporters that the majority victory of Johnson's Conservatives party "might be a harbinger for what's to come in our country." He noted that "it's gonna be a great thing for the United States also because it means a lot of trade, a tremendous amount of trade".
That same day, Trump tweeted that the two countries "will now be free to strike a massive new Trade Deal after Brexit." The British Prime Minister has vowed last week to close the Brexit debate and to get Brexit done by January 31, 2020. (end) si.gb
