KUWAIT, Dec 12 (KUNA) -- The first round of political consultations between Kuwait and Canada took place Thursday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Deputy Assistant Minister for American Affairs, Advisor Salah Al-Haddad, chaired the Kuwaiti side, while Assistant Deputy Minister of Global Affairs Canada Peter McDougall headed the Canadian side.
Talks between the two sides delved into issues of common concern.
The two sides also focused on ways to strengthen bilateral relations and develop them in various fields, especially economic, investment and educational fields.
The talks also covered regional issues of common concern between the two countries.
The consultations come in implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries in August 2018 regarding the establishment of consultations of senior officials between the State of Kuwait and Canada.
Kuwaiti students studying in Canada is estimated to be around 530 students, many of them in medical fields, and there are 10 agreements signed between the two countries since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1965 in various fields in addition to Kuwaiti investments in Canada, which is estimated to be USD 16 billion.
