Trump "poses threat to integrity" of 2020 election - House Judiciary Chair

WASHINGTON, Dec 8 (KUNA) -- Chairman of the US House Judiciary Committee Jerry Nadler said Sunday that President Donald Trump "poses a threat to the integrity" of the 2020 presidential election "if he's allowed to continue to do what he's doing." In an interview with NBC network, Nadler said, "The president, based on his past performance, will do everything he can to make it a not fair election, and that is part of what gives us the urgency to proceed with this impeachment." "We have to call the president for his violations of the constitution and for posing the considerable risk that poses to the next election," he stressed.
He added, "We also are faced with a very direct threat that this president put himself repeatedly above the interests of the country and poses a threat to the integrity of the next election." "This is a matter of urgency to deal with, because we have to make sure that the next election is conducted with integrity and without foreign interference," he remarked.
In a separate interview with CNN, Nadler said, "There is overwhelming evidence, uncontested by the Republicans, that the president put himself above the country, that the president sought foreign assistance in elections, sought to cover it up, completely defied participation in the congressional investigation in order to hide his role, that he sought foreign assistance for the next election." The Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on Monday "in which the Intelligence Committee is going to present the evidence," he said, adding, "We have to consider the evidence -- the evidence is virtually uncontested." "This poses a real threat to the integrity of our elections. It's a matter of urgency. And after we hear the evidence, more of the evidence tomorrow, and after there's a discussion tomorrow, then we will make these decisions," he reiterated.
Nadler stressed "we have a very rock-solid case. I think the case we have, if presented to a jury, would be a guilty verdict in about three minutes flat." On Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the House of Representatives will proceed with drafting articles of impeachment against Trump.
For his part, Trump tweeted today "less than 48 hours before start of the Impeachment Hearing Hoax, on Monday, the No Due Process, Do Nothing Democrats are, believe it or not, changing the Impeachment Guidelines because the facts are not on their side. When you can't win the game, change the rules!" (end) si.gb
