Lebanese PM-designate turns down mission

BEIRUT, Dec 8 (KUNA) -- Lebanese prime minister-designate Samir Al-Khatib announced on Sunday his rejection of the task to form a new government after meeting with the Grand Mufti Abdullatif Derian.
Al-Khatib told local media after holding consultations and meetings with the Islamist community that it was agreed on nominating caretaker prime minister Saad al-Harrir to form the next government.
He added that the Mufti is one of the supporters of Al-Hariri, who is making efforts to revive Lebanon, and support his Arab and international role.
After meeting with caretaker Al-Hariri, al-Khatib prayed to Allah the Almighty to help Lebanese people overcome the crisis. Al-Hariri nominated Al-Khatib after he had submitted his resignation in the wake of massive protests countrywide. (pickup previous) kbs.hm
