China urges less tariff in case of trade deal with US

BEIJING, Dec 5 (KUNA) -- China on Thursday called for cutting tariffs if it and the United States are to reach an interim agreement on trade, the Commerce Ministry's spokesman said.
"The Chinese side believes that if the two sides reach a phase one deal, tariffs should be lowered accordingly," Gao Feng told reporters.
However, the Chinese spokesman stressed that Beijing and Washington were maintaining close communication in this regard.
The phase one of the US-Chinese trade agreement is likely to complete before US tariffs are imposed on a number of Chinese commodities and products in mid-December.
Once the deal is concluded, Beijing will resume buying US farm products. (end) mab.mt
