US vice-pres. in Iraq in surprise visit - official

BAGHDAD, Nov 23 (KUNA) -- US Vice President Mike Pence arrived in Iraq on a previously unannounced visit on Saturday, an Iraqi official said.
During his stay, the US official is expected to visit US troops who are based Ain Al-Asad air base in Anbar Province in western Iraq, along with several Iraqi officials, the official told KUNA It is the first time for Pence to visit Iraq. It comes nearly one year since President Donald Trump's surprise visit to the country.
It also comes at a time when Iraq has been embroiled in unprecedented protests demanding government resignation and constitutional changes. (end) ahh.mt
