WASHINGTON, Nov 22 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo affirmed Friday that the US "proudly" stands with the Lebanese people in their "peaceful demonstrations calling for reforms and an end to corruption."
In a statement congratulating the Lebanese people on Independence Day, Pompeo said "today, the Lebanese people are showing the entire world their commitment to this ideal" of a free nation.
"On this occasion, the United States reaffirms its enduring friendship to the Lebanese people," he added. "We remain committed to a brighter future for Lebanon."
Pompeo affirmed that the US "stands ready to work with a new Lebanese government that is responsive to the needs of its citizens and has the capacity and political will to build a stable, prosperous, independent, and secure Lebanon for all." (end)
