US Senate passes short-term funding bill

WASHINGTON, Nov 21 (KUNA) -- The US Senate Thursday passed a short-term funding bill to avert a government shutdown as the clock ticks down to an expiration of government funding that would trigger a shutdown if lawmakers and the President did not act in time to prevent it.
The senate voted 74-20 in favor of the funding bill. It followed a 231-192 vote by the Congress.
Government funding expires at midnight on Thursday, and the bill will now go to President Donald Trump for signature to guarantee funding until December 20.
Vice President Mike Pence said Trump would be forced to sign a Continuing Resolution because Congress failed to do its job once again.
"They are spending more time trying to impeach the President than working for the American people that elected them," said Pence. (end) asj
