Clashes renew between protesters, Iraqi forces in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Nov 21 (KUNA) -- A new wave of clashes erupted on Thursday between the protesters and the Iraqi security forces in central the capital, Baghdad, eyewitnesses said.
The anti-rioting forces fired tear gas canisters to disperse the demonstrators, causing suffocation to 15 of them, the eyewitnesses told KUNA.
These incidents came at a time when the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights has announced that nine protesters have been killed since November 16 until Wednesday.
It pointed in a statement on the kidnapping of some activists, demonstrators, bloggers, journalists and lawyers, amid these incidents.
The commission called on the government to uncover the fate of those who have been kidnapped and release them.
The commission uncovered the detention of dozens of the demonstrators in several cities like Baghdad and Basra.
Meanwhile, the body tasked with Internet services in Baghdad said the authorities lifted the ban on social media sites, which was imposed more than 20 days ago.
People can directly use Facebook, Twitter and others, the boy told KUNA.
Earlier in the day, Baghdad witnessed violent clashes between demonstrators and the government forces, wounding 30 protesters.
The demonstrators are calling on the government to combat corruption, improve services and create jobs. (end) ahh.hm
