Arab MPs blast Tehran over Houthi diplomatic mission

CAIRO, Nov 21 (KUNA) -- The Arab Parliament Thursday "emphatically" lashed out at Iran for recognizing a Houthi ambassador and handing him the Yemeni government's diplomatic mission in Tehran.
"This Iranian position is deemed a blatant breach of international diplomatic norms and the principle of consecrating diplomatic and consular facilities," Arab Parliament Speaker Meshal Al-Salmi said in a release.
He also deplored the Iranian move as a defilement of the UN Charter and Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 as well as relevant UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216/2015.
He emphasized that Iran's recognition of Houthi militias and its bid to impose the fait accompli are an "aggressive act and a breach of Yemen's sovereignty.
The top Arab lawmaker held Iran responsible for the consequences of this action and subsequent impacts on efforts to find a political solution to the Yemeni standoff.
In this context, Al-Salmi called on the UNSC and UN General Assembly to live up to their due responsibilities by taking some action against Iran for defiling Yemen's sovereignty, and by seeking to keep Yemen's diplomatic missions intact. (end) mfm.rg.mt
