UNSC E-10 against legitimization of Jewish settlements

NEW YORK, Nov 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwait and the other nine elected members of the UN Security Council (UNSC E-10) on Wednesday rejected the attempts to legitimize the Israeli settlements the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.
The State of Kuwait and Indonesia have tabled to the Council a draft statement, affirming the illegality of the Israeli settlement activities, said Kuwait's Representative to the UN Mansour A. Al-Otaibi at a press conference.
"Regrettably, the draft failed to win the support of the other (five permanent) members of the Council," he said.
The draft reads as follows; "We reaffirm our constant and unequivocal position, in line with international law and relevant Security Council resolution, that the Israeli settlement activities are illegal, erode the viability of the two-state solution and undermine the prospects for a just, lasting and comprehensive peace as affirmed by UN Security Council Resolution 2334.
"We call on Israel to end all settlement activity in line with its obligations as an occupying power.
"We also reiterate our concern about the calls for a possible annexation of areas in the West Bank.
"We will continue to support a resumption of a meaningful process towards a negotiated two-state solution, the only realistic and viable way to fulfil the legitimate aspirations of both parties." Besides Kuwait and Indonesia, the UNSC E-10 include Belgium, Cote dآ’Ivoire, Dominican Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Germany, Peru, Poland and South Africa. (pickup previous) asj.gb
