NEW DELHI, Nov 20 (KUNA) -- India successfully test-fired two indigenously developed nuclear capable Prithvi-2 missiles from Interim Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, off Odisha coast on Wednesday night.
Quoting an official from the test range, Press Trust of India said the "two Prithvi-2 missiles were test-fired consecutively and both tests met all parameters."
The test-fire of the surface-to-surface missiles, with a strike range of 350 km., was conducted from a mobile launcher of the ITR Launch Complex-III at 7:00 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. (local time).
The official said that Army's Strategic Force Command carried out the launch after the missiles were randomly chosen from the production stock and scientists of Defence Research and Development Organisation of India, which is responsible for defence production monitored the exercise.
The nine-meter Prithvi, capable of carrying 500-1,000 kg of warheads, was already inducted into the armory of Indian defence forces in 2003.
The Indian missile test-fire came two days after Pakistan army successfully carried out a test launch of the ballistic missile 'Shaheen-1' capable of carrying all types of warheads which can strike targets up to 650 kilometers putting many Indian cities under its range. (end)
