Arab League condemns Houthis' take over Yemeni mission in Tehran

CAIRO, Nov 20 (KUNA) -- The Arab League Wednesday condemned the Iranian authorities' handing over the Yemeni government's diplomatic mission in Tehran to the representatives of the outlawed Houthi militias.
This move "is a blatant violation of diplomatic norms, UN Charter and Vienna agreement on diplomatic and consular relations, as well as relevant UN Security Council resolutions, namely resolution 2216," Secretary General Ahmad Abul Gheit said in a statement.
This step "reflects an Iranian insistence to continue the hostile behavior with the aim of destabilizing Yemen and threatens security of its neighbors," he said.
Abul Gheit extended the Arab League's full support for the legitimate Yemeni government to maintain the sovereignty and independence of Yemen.
He urged UN Security Council to live up to its responsibility vis-a-vis this issue. (end) mfm.bs
