IRBIL, Nov 18 (KUNA) -- At least 16,000 Syrian refugees fled to the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, said the region's government Monday.
In a statement to KUNA, Director General of the Joint Coordination Center for Crises at the Kurdish Ministry of Interior Hoshnek Mohammad affirmed that the influx of Syrians fleeing the violence in northeastern Syria continues to the territory of the Kurdistan region.
He also pointed out that the teams of the ministry of interior and in coordination with the United Nations' organizations receive on a daily basis hundreds of Syrian families.
Mohammad said that three camps have been allocated to receive Syrian refugees in Dohuk governorate and as soon as the refugees arrive, they are provided with basic materials, pointing out that the number of refugees reached 16,060.
He stressed that the refugees are in need of more international support, noting that they have held several meetings with different diplomatic representatives of donor countries and UN humanitarian organizations to take measures to help these number of refugees, especially in winter. (end) sbr.aa
