Quake of 7.1-magnitude hits 2 Indonesian Islands

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 (KUNA) -- A strong earthquake of 7.1-magnitude hit Maluku and Sulawesi Islands in Indonesia with no reports of damage to properties or loss of lives.
Indonesian meteorological bodies said that the epicenter of the quake was 130 kilometers away from Jailolo-Maluku area northwest of the country, adding that it was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers in the Maluku Sea.
The quake was followed by 26 aftershocks ranging between four to 5.9 in magnitude.
Indonesia is prone to earthquakes due to its location near the "Rim of Fire" in the basin of the Pacific Ocean . (end) aab.gta
