ABU DHABI, Nov 13 (KUNA) -- Egypt's President Abdelfatah Al-Sisi and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed discussed on Wednesday the developments on the Arab, regional and international levels as well as the issues of common concern.
This came during Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed's reception of the visiting Egyptian President who is on an official visit to the UAE, the UAE's news agency (WAM) reported in a statement.
The talks focused on the strong brotherly relations between the two countries and their strategic bilateral cooperation as well as mechanisms of promoting this cooperation in all domains, it added.
Al-Sisi's visit to the UAE comes within the framework of the two sides' joint keenness on strengthening brotherly relations, cooperation and consultation on various issues pertaining to boosting the joint Arab action, it noted.
According to a WAM report on relations between the two countries, the UAE is ranked first on the international level in terms of foreign direct investment in Egypt that reached about USD 6.6 billion in 2018 compared to about USD 6.5 billion in 2017.
The volume of trade exchange between the two countries from January to October 2018 hit USD three billion, it said, adding that the number of UAE companies operating in Egypt reached 1065 until March 2019, compared with 923 companies in 2017.
The ties between the two countries are regulated by a set of agreements and protocols on scientific, commercial, economic and technical cooperation as well as protecting and encouraging investment, it said.
There are also some deals and MoUs between the chambers of commerce and industry of the two countries as well as others aiming to promote the bilateral ties, it made clear.
In April 2018, the UAE and Egypt launched a strategic partnership to develop the latter's government performance and contribute to achieving Egypt vision 2030.
The partnership includes four key areas, including achieving government performance and excellence, improving government capabilities, government services and government accelerators, it pointed out.
This partnership resulted in holding training programmers to build the capacities of Egyptian government employees in order to strengthen government capacities and build future cadres capable of making a difference in government work and improving the level of procedures and transactions to contribute to achieving the goals and vision of Egypt 2030, according to WAM.
On sports, the two countries signed a 10-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Dubai in 2015 to promote cooperation in terms of training, sports medicine, activities, media and investment as well as others. (end) bs.hm
