BEIRUT, Nov 9 (KUNA) -- Lebanese demonstrators begin at 8 p.m. every night banging on kitchen utensils manifesting their protest of economic and living hardships.
The inspiration dated back to 1915, when locusts swept cultivated fields throughout Lebanon, prompting farmers to bang on kitchen and cooking utensils to scare off the crop devouring insects and keep them away from the groves.
This practice has been adopted by many social and revolutionary movements worldwide to symbolically express struggle of the poor and the impoverished. (end) ayb.rk
