EP to assess Brexit vote on Monday

BRUSSELS, Oct 19 (KUNA) -- The European Parliament will assess the outcome of today's vote in the UK Parliament and current state of play on Brexit on Monday in its full session in Strasbourg.
Jaume Duch, EP spokesperson, said in a twitter message Saturday that the EP's Brexit Steering group is scheduled to meet in the afternoon followed by a separate meeting of the EP President and the leaders of the seven political groups.
Meanwhile, the leader of the Socialist & Democrats Group Iratxe Garcia in a press release said "Brexit is a difficult and painful process for everyone. In our group we have always said that we would prefer the UK to stay in the European Union, but we will respect the will of the British people." "Again today the UK Parliament voted against a no-deal Brexit with the Letwin amendment, to avoid a situation in which the British people are confronted with the choice of a no-deal exit in ten days or only the deal negotiated by Boris Johnson.
"Now it is up to the House of Commons to continue the procedure and vote on the deal itself," said the leader of the second-largest political group in the EP." (end) nk.sd
