Barnier: Brexit deal possible this week

BRUSSELS, Oct 15 (KUNA) -- European Union's Brexit chief negotiator Michel Barnier Tuesday said that a deal will be difficult but it is until possible this week.
"Our teams are working hard and the work just starts now, today. This work has been intense, all over the weekend and yesterday because, even if an agreement will be difficult, more and more difficult, it's still possible this week," he told reporters ahead of a meeting of the EU's General Affairs Council in Luxembourg today.
"Obviously, any agreement must work for everyone, the whole of the UK, and the whole of the EU. It is high time to turn good intention in a legal text," he added.
On her part, Tytti Tuppurainen, Minister for European Affairs of Finland, which holds the current EU Presidency, said "today we are going to get an update on Brexit, and we have to be prepared for all possible scenarios, hopefully we'll have a deal, but we also have to prepare ourselves for a no deal and we also have to be ready to consider an extension.
"So all the options are open and today we are going to hear the latest news from Michel Barnier," she added.
Meanwhile, EU leaders are meeting in Brussels on Thursday and Friday to decide on the future of Brexit. (end) nk.hb
