Sheikha Rima Al-Sabah ranked among most powerful women in Washington DC

By Sherouq Sadeqi WASHINGTON, Sept 28 (KUNA) -- The wife of Kuwait's Ambassador to the US Sheikha Rima Al-Sabah was named by a prominent US magazine as one of only two Arab women in the nation's capital 2019 Most Powerful Women.
Sheikha Rima Al-Sabah, Goodwill Ambassador to UNHCR, was named among the Washingtonian's 150 Most Powerful Women, being the only Arab women to be honored along with Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to the US Princess Reema bint Bandar Al-Saud.
Sheikha Rima was among 150 of "the area's most influential women in governance, business, law, education, media, nonprofits and the arts." She was ranked under "International Affairs" along with only two other women, being Saudi Ambassador to the US and the German Ambassador Emily Haber.
It was hardly a surprise for Sheikha Rima to make the list especially as she, over the last 13 years, was able to raise over USD 18 million through her gala dinners to support women and children causes.
Sheikha Rima made the list among other powerful women, such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Adviser to the President Ivanka Trump, White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway, Senator and 2020 presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Mayor of the District of Columbia Muriel Bowser.
In remarks to KUNA, Sheikha Rima expressed her honor to be named one of the 2019 Washingtonian's 150 Most Powerful Women, saying she gets this power from her loving and supporting family.
She added she is forever grateful to her country Kuwait and the support it gives her to do the work she feels so passionate about that it reflects "our leader, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah who is passionate about Kuwait's role in addressing a range of humanitarian causes." In 2018, the United Nations Women for Peace Association (UNWFPA) presented Sheikha Rima Al-Sabah with the prestigious Peace Award for her extraordinary philanthropic work for over a decade.
