Hearing into ex-president of Sudan's case adjourned for a week

KHARTOUM, Sept 21 (KUNA) -- A Sudanese court adjourned on Saturday trial of the former president Omar Al-Bashir to the next Saturday after defense witnesses testified in today's hearing.
Among the witnesses was a security officer and a staff of the Bank of Sudan.
Chief defense attorney Ahmad Al-Taher said in a statement after today's session that nine defense witnessed testified, adding that more would show up in the next session.
Al-Bashir had been charged with making a wealth illegally and trading in foreign currencies, but his lawyers denied the accusations.
Witnesses had claimed locating USD 6.9 million, 351,000 euros and 721,000 Sudanese pounds at Al-Bashir's residence. Also, these claims were denied.
The public prosecution, in May, accused Al-Bashir of "involvement in the killing of demonstrators." The Sudanese Army ousted Al-Bashir following widespread protests against his rule on April 11. He has been behind iron bars since then. (end) mam.rk
