VIENNA, Sept 20 (KUNA) -- A senior Kuwaiti science official affirmed on Friday that human and institutional capacities development is essential for safe and peaceful use of nuclear technology, which, in turn, works in favor of backing priorities of national development.
Kuwait is keen on benefiting from international expertise to develop and enhance its own human and institution capacities, which is also part of its development plan and "New Kuwait 2035" vision, Director General of Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) Dr. Samira Omar told KUNA upon conclusion of IAEA's 63rd annual convention.
Kuwait has developed a basic structure for nuclear technologies, and boosted technical expertise to use them effectively and sustainably in several vital fields in cooperation with IAEA, noted Omar.
Kuwait's participation in IAEA's meetings confirms its commitment to international agreements, she said, noting this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of relationship between the GCC-member state and the UN-affiliated agency.
Furthermore, the Kuwaiti official affirmed her country's fruitful persistence to boost its worldwide cooperation for peaceful application of nuclear science and technology.
She also praised Kuwaiti Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna Sadeq Marafi's efforts to strengthen cooperation with IAEA.
Moreover, Omar mentioned the positive outcomes attained in favor of Kuwait through IAEA's convention, including signing two deals to enhance nuclear science and technology, monitor and protect the marine environment, in addition to acquiring membership of IAEA's Board of Governors.
The Kuwaiti delegation to IAEA's 63rd convention was headed by Ambassador Marafi and included Director General of Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Sciences Dr. Adnan Shehabeddine, KISR's chief Dr. Omar, Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for International Organizations' Affairs Abdulaziz Al-Jarallah, the national liaison officer at the IAEA Dr. Osama Al-Sayegh, and Director General of Jaber Al-Ahmad Center for Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Fahad Marafi.
