Afghan air strike kills 30 civilians in eastern Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, Sep 19 (KUNA) -- At least 30 civilians were killed and over 40 others injured in an accidently air strike by Afghan security forces that struck a farmland in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province, said officials on Thursday.
Sohrab Qaderi -- a provincial council member in Nangarhar -- said that the air raid happened at a time when tiresome workers, mainly daily wage earners, had gathered near their tent after harvesting.
According to local media, the attack, carried out by a drone, was aimed at destroying a hideout used by the so-called Islamic State (IS) group fighters, but it accidentally targeted farmers near a field.
The Defense ministry in Kabul confirmed the raid, but refused to share casualty details immediately. (end) sbk.lr
