KUWAIT, Sept 9 (KUNA) -- 1977 -- The Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued a decree to terminate the concession contract given to 'The American Independent Oil Company' (AMINOIL) in June 28, 1948, enabling the state to retain control over the petroleum business and finance.
1996 -- Late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issue decree prohibiting establishing any manufacturing facility without lisencee from the Public Authority of Industry. 1997 -- Rare artifacts at Failaka Island were transported to Kuwait National Museum in order to preserve them after damage incurred during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990.
2003 -- For the first time since the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, Arab nations during their Arab League foreign ministers meeting unanimously condemned the outrageous violations of human rights and international law by the defunct regime of Saddam Hussein against the Iraqi and Kuwaiti people including massacres and killing of Kuwait and third country POWs. The step was considered a major diplomatic achievement for Kuwait.
2014 -- UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon held a ceremony in New York City to honor His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a global humanitarian leader and Kuwait as an international hub for humanitarian efforts. (end) mb
