KUWAIT, Aug 28 (KUNA) -- Frankincense was known as the perfume of kings and sultans, as it was a symbol of power and authority, especially in the Arabian Peninsula.
For that reason, Oman's Samahram historical village in Dhofar state became of great importance as it it surrounded by Boswellia sacra trees' reserves, used to extract Frankincense.
The village also overlooks the Indian Ocean, making it a busy commercial area for countries with ports overlooking the Red Sea, the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean. Ships that used to deliver all kinds of food items to Dhofar would carry Frankincense back home.
Frankincense trade between the East and West in the ancient world continued from the 3rd century BC to the 5th century.
When extracted from trees, Frankincense looks like a milky glue-like liquid that freezes into small pieces. (end) ahr.ag
