Kuwait edge UAE to 76-74 win at Gulf region Asian U-18 basketball qualifiers

MANAMA, Aug 22 (KUNA) -- Kuwait fought out a 76-74 triumph over the UAE on Thursday at the Gulf Basketball Association (GBA) Qualifiers for the 2020 FIBA U18 Asian Championship, hosted by Bahrain.
The Kuwaitis manitain their close to perfect start in the tournament with another win - their second out of three - taking part in their competitive debut since a close to three-year sporting ban was lifted on the country last year.
In other games, Saudi Arabia defeated Oman, 74-57, while hosts Bahrain, were able to clinch their third successive victory over Qatar, 115-45.
In a press statement, Deputy Chairman of Kuwait Basketball Federation Khalil Taher congratulated the players on their win, urging them to go the extra mile and win the tournament.
Kuwait are set to face Saudi Arabia and Oman in their remaining fixtures. The Saudis have won all three of their opening fixtures, while the Omanis have only registered one win out of three games.
Only the first and second-placed sides will gain automatic qualification to the 2020 FIBA U-18 Asian Championship. (end) hmd.mb
