Turkey warns Syrian regime from attacking its troops in Idlib

ANKARA, Aug 20 (KUNA) -- The Syrian regime's army should not target Turkish troops stationed in Idlib governorate northwest of Syria, said a top Turkish diplomat Tuesday.
This statement came from Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, during his press conference, with Salvadoran counterpart Alexandra Hill on the backdrop of a Syrian airstrike targeting a Turkish military convoy in Idlib yesterday.
Cavusoglu stressed that Turkey will not be removing the ninth observation point established in Idlib in accordance with the Astana accord signed by guarantors states Russia, Turkey, and Iran.
The observation point is there to bring security and stability in the region, added the Turkish Foreign Minister who indicated that the Russians would be contacted to review the recent attack by the Syrian regime.
The Turkish Defense Ministry announced Monday that three civilians were killed and 12 others were injured in the Syrian regime airstrike on the Turkish military convoy, which was heading to the observation point. (end) rs.gta
