FAO releases obituary over death of former Director General Diouf

ROME, Aug 19 (KUNA) -- The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) released an obituary for its former Senegalese Director-General Jacques Diouf, who passed away at the age of 81 on Sunday.
In a statement on Monday, FAO's newly appointed Director General Qu Dongyu expressed his deepest condolences to Diouf's family. He added that Diouf, who served the longest term as FAO's Director General, had exerted great efforts to end hunger and poverty around the world.
Meanwhile, he noted that Diouf's efforts will continue through the "Jacques Diouf Award" for best contribution to global food security.
Diouf served as FAO's Director General for 18 years. He was elected as the first African official for the position in January 1994 until December 2011. (end) mn.fam.ag
