Egypt issues death sentences to six

CAIRO, Aug 19 (KUNA) -- Cairo Criminal Court on Monday issued -- after consulting the Grand Mufti -- death sentence to six defendants in a case dubbed the "Kerdasa Popular Resistance Committee." According to the official news agency, "Asharq Al-Awsat," the court headed by justice Shaaban Al-Shami also sentenced 41 defendants to life imprisonment.
Seven defendants were punished with a 15-year severe imprisonment and a juvenile was handed a verdict to spend three years behind iron bars.
The court acquitted 14 defendants. A demised defendant was also acquitted due to his death.
Public Prosecution has charged all 70 members with establishing and managing a terror cell, stoking public disorder and subverting state institutions. (end) rg.gaa
