Kuwaiti karting racer qualifies to take part in world championship

BRUSSELS, Aug 18 (KUNA) -- The youngest international karting racer from Kuwait, Fahad Al Khalid, has qualified to participate in the Karting World Championship following his participation in the IAME Series Benelux Karting events held in the Belgian city of Genk Sunday.
"I am delighted to be here today to support our champion. He is among the youngest of all participants. He is only 14 years old," Kuwait's Ambassador to Belgium, EU and NATO, Jasem Al Budaiwi, told Kuwait News Agency, KUNA, by phone from Genk, 82 kms north east of Brussels.
"He is making all the Kuwaitis in Belgium extremely proud of him. The embassy is here to give him the support he needs," he said. "It is part of our duty as Kuwait embassy to support Kuwaitis participating in sport events in Belgium. We wish him all the best," said Al Budaiwi.
Fahad's father Mohammad Al Khalid expressed his great joy over the success of his son. He told KUNA that his son qualified to participate in the Karting World Championship to be held at Le Mans, France, next week.
He said that since the age of five, Fahad loves automobiles. Mohammad Al Khalid, who himself took part in car racing competitions in the past, said his son Fahd started participating in international championships at the age of 10.
He also expressed his thanks to ambassador Jasem Al Budaiwi, as well as to the General Committee for Sports and the automobile club in Kuwait and to a number of sponsors in Kuwait for their support. The Genk Karting event was held from Friday till Sunday with the participation of around 150 senior and junior drivers. (end) nk.rk
